Drafting & CAD Work
As an undergraduate I enjoyed working with many CAD programs, specifically Autodesk AUTOCAD and INVENTOR, a paramertic modeling system similar to SOLIDWORKS. I furthered my knowledge in this are through taking two undergraduate and one graduate level course on the topic of CAD and modeling. This page contains a few examples of my work with these programs.
Sample CAD Drafting Work
Here I present two sample pieces of work. The first is done in AUTOCAD, a traditional CAD program. The second in Inventor, a parametric based CAD program. For more work using some of these models, see my FEMLAB and Fabrication sections of this poirtfolio. The examples presented here are:
- Downhill Mountainbike Frame
- Rotary Body Support
Santa Cruz V10 Downhill Mountainbike Frame
For the part of my graduate Advanced CAD course I decided to model the frame and suspention of the Santa Cruz V10 Downhill Mountain Bike in AUTOCAD. This was challenging becuase the program is really only 2.5 dimensional, and does not handle geometry moving in more than two dimensions very well. I believe the results turned out extremely well.
Shown below is a picture of the V10 Mountainbike:
